John Casson in Afghanistan
Introduction
In August/September 2008 John Casson made his first visit to Afghanistan with the former ITN reporter and News at Ten presenter Sandy Gall. The purpose was to see for himself the work of Sandy Gall's Afghanistan Appeal and visit several parts of the country meeting the people, not only Afghans but also those involved in the country’s security and reconstruction.
John returned with over 500 photographs and many video reports and interviews which he made available to sponsors raising £16,000 for Sandy Gall's Afghanistan Appeal
The reaction to date from those who have seen his blog and given feedback is that they had no idea of the many issues facing Afghanistan, nor how much these wonderful Afghan people have suffered.
In August 2010 John Casson returned to Afghanistan with professional photographer Jeremy Rata. They travelled the country in twelve days taking photographs of the Afghan people for John's book Afghan Faces.
All the profits from Afghan Faces are being donated to charities supporting our armed forces injured in Afghanistan, including Help for Heroes and The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, and for injured Afghan civilians Sandy Gall's Afghanistan Appeal.
